A local manufacturing company is going retail. Power Drives, Inc. plans to open a retail center in Tonawanda in November. A report in this week's Business First looks at the expansion. Buffalo-based Power Drives has factories in Buffalo, Erie, Jamestown and China. They also have retail stores in Rochester and Erie. The focus of the store is to provide custom, while-you-wait hydraulic hoses. So when one breaks on equipment like a snowplow, forklift or tractor, customers only wait 15-20 minutes for a new one to be assembled. The Tonawanda store on Sheridan Drive will be called Power Drives Express Hose Center.

It's time for the annual fundraiser A Night to Shine, hosted by Suneel's Light Foundation. The goal of A Night to Shine is to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD.) The genetic childhood disease targets young boys and usually leads to death by their early 20's.
Suneel's Light is named after a teenager in Amherst who suffers from the disease. A Night to Shine will be held Thursday, October 17th from 5:30 pm - 9 pm at the Hotel @ The Lafayette, 391 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY. It will be complete with an auction, life music and raffles. Tickets are $75 or $135 per couple.
