Niagara Falls, Ontario (WKBW)

In April of 2011 officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service Guns, Gangs and Grows Unit commenced an investigation into a marijuana grow operation located within a dwelling house at 6851 Courtney Crescent, Niagara Falls. On May 4, 2011 officers obtained a search warrant pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for the dwelling house. At about 6:59 pm the search warrant was executed and as a result police discovered the entire basement of the home had been sub-divided into six separate rooms that were dedicated to the production of marijuana. Police seized 461 marijuana plants in various stages of growth and a large quantity of equipment being used in the production of marijuana.
The search also revealed a hydro and water by pass had been installed. All of the hydro electricity used to power the marijuana grow operation was being supplied through the illegal by pass and therefore was not being recorded by the hydro meter for billing purposes. The water used to maintain the grow operation and supply three chilling units was also consumed without being properly metered.
Charged with production of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and 2 counts of theft is Kin Min WONG 55 years of age of no fixed abode. Mr. WONG has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
