Amherst, NY (WKBW)- Local elections are just days away and some big names are stepping in to endorse a candidate in the Erie County Executive race.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, United States Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman Brian Higgins, and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown rallied behind fellow Democrat Mark Poloncarz for County Executive.

The politicians rallied with other supporters inside the United Auto Workers Region 9 Hall on George Karl Boulevard in Amherst Friday afternoon.

"We need to change things and change is called Mark Poloncarz," said Cuomo.

Incumbent Chris Collins says he's not bothered by Poloncarz's endorsements. Collins says he has the backing of local businesses who are invested into the community instead of career politicians.

"It's politicians endorsing politicians whether they're from Albany, Washington, or locally and I think the public sees this for what it is," said Collins.

In a recently released television ad, Collins is endorsed by former County comptroller Alfreda Slominski.

Collins says he has a proven track record of holding the line on taxes and keeping a balanced budget. Poloncarz also boasts his record as Erie County Comptroller and says if elected, his main focus would be on job creation in the county.
