Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Buffalo police are announcing a break in the city's latest homicide.

Officers have arrested 22-year-old John Carney in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Jeremy Lott early Sunday morning.

Police say Lott was outside smoking a cigarette with 26-year-old Lareecea Love on North Fillmore Avenue outside of Lee's Lounge.

That's when Carney allegedly shot the two, killing Lott.

Detective had previously detained Carney, but released him due to lack of evidence.

After witnesses identified Carney, Buffalo police started searching for him again.

Police later found him in a local hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound himself.

Mayor Byron Brown says "This reinforces our message about using guns. No good can come from young people with guns in their hands, with guns in their possession."

Police say Carney and Lott were best friends. They add there is a chance that Carney was aiming for someone else.
