Lancaster, NY (WKBW)- Lancaster Police and Federal agents with the A.T.F. AND F.B.I. are now investigating 3 suspicious explosions behind The Tops Shopping Plaza on Transit Road near French Road. Police say they received calls about the explosions from a mile away from the site and the blasts left a 50 yard radius of debris. Police believe someone set off 3 explosive devices in 3 separate dumpsters behind the plaza near a Goodwill store. Investigators spent much of the morning interviewing nearby residents and searching for the culprit.

"We do have one witness that said they saw a white male between 40 and 55 years old, 6 foot, heavy set, walking away from the scene before anyone arrived. He did have a facial injury," said Lancaster Police Captain Timothy Murphy."

Nearby by residents say the explosions shook their walls and rattled pictures.

"It scared the heck out of me," said Lancaster Resident Barbara Lata. "We felt the boom and saw flames."

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the explosions. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Lancaster Police at: 716-683-2800. Tops wants to let consumers know that it's store was unaffected by the incident and it is open for business. The dumpsters do not belong to Tops.
