Police Find Vehicle And Body In Niagara River

BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW / RELEASE ) Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives are awaiting autopsy results after the body of a 30 year old male was found near the Niagara River at the foot of Austin Street Saturday afternoon.

he individual in connection with the car found in the water at the foot of Austin Street has been identified as 30 year old as Emery J. Harris of
Niagara Falls. Police believe Harris accidentally drove his van into the Niagara River. At this time foul play is not expected.

Detectives were called to the scene just after 3pm Saturday afternoon.

At this time, police say the incident does not appear to be suspicious in nature. Authorities believe the individual accidentally may have driven into the water.

Detectives believe the incident may have happened sometime in the overnight hours Friday into Saturday. Harris' body was discovered Saturday afternoon.

It appears Harris drove into the water at the foot of Austin Street, but was able to get out of his vehicle.

He was found in the vicinity, and was declared dead at the scene.

The Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team was also called to the scene Saturday afternoon, and were able to pull his partially submerged van from the Niagara River.

Buffalo firefighters also assisted.
