ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) - The Erie County Sheriff's Department is cracking down on people illegally using handicapped parking permits.

More than 400 have been confiscated over the past 11 years.

If you get caught, expect to pay between a $50 and$ 75 fine plus a $30 surcharge.

If you are using a placard that doesn't belong to you, you are putting the rightful owner in jeopardy.

"If they inaccurately or inappropriately display it to the Deputies, it's taken and then what we do is we send it back to the township of issuance and then the person who actually needs it has to reapply and get that permit back," said Chief Scott Joslyn.
