BUFFALO (WKBW) It was a scary afternoon at the Buffalo Zoo, after polar bear Luna slipped and fell into the concrete moat of the polar bear exhibit.
Zoo officials tried to coax her back up the steps that lead out of the moat, but were unsuccessful, and the animal had to be darted and anesthetized.
Adair Saviola, Director of Development and Marketing for the zoo tells Eyewitness News the bear is currently being treated at the animal hospital at the zoo.
"She's stable. She was alert and responding when they called her name down in the bottom of the moat. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, wait and see what happens when she comes out of the anesthesia," Saviola said.
The polar bear exhibit was temporarily closed to visitors. It is expected to reopen on Sunday.
Kali the polar bear was not hurt.
