A poker game at a home on Ashland Avenue in Niagara Falls leads to the stabbing death of twenty-six year old Donald Nix.

"They were in the apartment playing cards. They began to argue then a fight ensued. Then, he was stabbed," Niagara Falls Police Captain William Thomson said.

Twenty-five year old Wilbert Hayes allegedly stabbed Nix multiple times in the chest. Hayes turned himself in to police hours after the incident and was arrested. He faces serious charges including second-degree murder and manslaughter in the first degree.

"He is being cooperative and is clearly upset about what happened," Thomson said.

Police said other people in the home found Nix on the stairwell of the apartment. They called 911 immediately. He was taken to the Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital then transferred to ECMC where he later died.

Hayes was arraigned in Niagara Falls on the charges and is being held without bail. He will face a judge for the second time on March 18th.
