BUFFALO, NY (WKBW-TV) - Two pitbulls are recovering tonight at the SPCA after being rescued from a Dewey Avenue apartment in Buffalo.

SPCA officers removed the two pitbulls from the home which was filled with feces, urine and garbage. The landlord reported the terrible living conditions to the SPCA as he was doing an apartment check.

Miracle, the female pitbull, was up walking, kissing and wagging her tail Wednesday morning. Her companion, Lazarus (a name given by the SPCA for the dog), remains in the ICU (intensive care unit) under close surveillance.

The two dog owners, 22-year-old Santford Banks and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Alexandria Johnson were both arrested on the scene and charged with two counts each of animal cruelty.

Both of them appeared in Buffalo City Court on Wednesday where Banks was released and is scheduled to appear back in Buffalo City Court on November 10th at 9:30am.

As for Johnson, she is scheduled to appear on the same day and time, but she was held on $200 bail.
