Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Hundreds of students who at tend a local charter school are scrambling, after a last minute decision to close the doors to Pinnacle Charter School.

Parents learned that the State Education Department decided to close the school on Sunday evening.

However, the decision has been in the works for more than a year. In April of 2012, the State Board of Regents voted to close the school because of low test scores. It only remained open last year because of an injunction, which ended on August 22nd.

However, the attorney for Pinnacle says the school has been dramatically improving. She adds that many of the students will be forced to go to Buffalo Public Schools deemed failing by the state.

There are about 560 students enrolled at Pinnacle Charter School.

State officials are heading to Buffalo for a 2 pm meeting to discuss transfer plans with Pinnacle Charter School administrators and the Buffalo Public School system.

The issue will be back in court on September 3rd, but that is the day before school was set to begin.
