KENMORE, N.Y.- One local church held a very different type of service Sunday morning, focused around area pets and helping other animals in need.

At Sunday morning mass, it was man's best friend who was on the receiving end of some special prayers at the Blessing of the Animals Service at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Kenmore.

It was all for a good cause. Churchgoers were asked to bring pet food and monetary gifts to be donated to a local shelter.

More than 30 animals, along with their owners, waited in line at the service to receive a greeting and prayer from the pastor.

"We bless the animals because they are part of our families," said Reverend Joyce Sirianni, Ph.D. "We invite them in. I know other churches bless pets outside. We don't leave our children outside. They are so much a part of who we are as a family."

This is the 5th year for the Blessing of the Animals at the church.
