BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Just one day after the new Sabres owner officially took over the team and met the media...Terry Pegula was swarmed by fans at HSBC Arena Wednesday evening.
Channel 7's John Borsa and videographer Tony Jones were the only Buffalo television team to catch up with Pegula while he met fans in the lobby of the arena.
Chants of "Terry!" "Terry!" could be heard in the crowd before Pegula went on the ice for an emotional ceremonial puck drop.
Before the Sabres took on the Atlanta Thrashers, Pegula's son Matthew joined him on the ice as the legendary "French Connection" Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, and Rene Robert appeared.
Fans rose to their feet and cheered the presentation, while triumphant music filled the arena. There were no speeches, just lots of hugs - handshaking - and mutual admiration.
Fans earlier in the day expressed their thoughts on "The Pegula Era" with John Borsa. Stay tuned to Channel 7's Eyewitness News for more!
