Pedestrian Killed in Cheektowaga Crash

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) A Buffalo man was killed while walking in the roadway on Genesee Street Thursday night.

The Cheektowaga Police Department tells Eyewitness News 61-year-old Tommy Herring was walking on Genesee between Rowland Avenue and Normandy Avenue at 10:47 p.m., when he was hit by an SUV driving in the lane closest to the curb.

Herring was taken to the Sisters of Charity Hospital St. Joseph Campus, where he was pronounced dead.

The operator of the SUV, 27-year-old Jacques Gardner of Tonawanda, has not been charged in relations to the crash as the Cheektowaga Police Accident Investigation Unit continues its investigation.

The police department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Accident Investigation Unit at (716) 686-3580.
