BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) Local architect Rishawn Sonubi was driving to work at the architectural firm of Young & Wright on Seneca Street when he noticed smoke coming from a home on South Division Street.
After calling 911, Sonubi began yelling for anyone inside to get out.
A moment later, he saw a rear door look like it was trying to be opened.
"I ran to the back and there was a lot of smoke. I saw a woman just laying right there near the door, an older woman . . . she was burnt pretty bad, and i just grabbed her and dragged her about 20 feet into the grass of the neighbors yard." said Sonubi.
65-year old Annie Bonds was taken to the Erie County Medical Center in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Bonds husband, Larry, was not home when the fire broke out after 7am, but he is very thankful that a stranger tried to save his wife.
"I told him 'Thank You' and I feel in my heart that it had to be God that sent him by," added Larry Bonds.
The couple are the long-time owners of Bonds Cleaning Service in Buffalo.
Damage to the home was extensive, and with no insurance, Larry Bonds says he is working with the Red Cross to find a new place to live.
"I don't know what is going to happen but we are going to make it."
