BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) Buffalo firefighters evacuated three buildings on Connecticut Street between 14th Street and 15th Street Saturday morning, when a partial collapse caused damage to four structures.
The National Weather Service reported downburst storms in the area. Firefighters at the scene say one such microburst was the likely culprit for the damage. The National Weather Service and city building inspectors combed over the site immediately following the incident.
Residents evacuated their homes on the historic 400 block of Connecticut St. before 10:30 Saturday morning. The block is home to the original Mineo & Sapio Retail Store. The store sustained about $75,000 in damage.
Total damages are currently assessed at approximately $250,000, with the Ashland Pest Control building at 406 Connecticut taking the brunt of the damage.
