Olean, NY (WKBW)
Church members spent Monday morning trying to salvage anything they could from the ashes of St. Joesph's Maronite Catholic Church in Olean. The church caught on fire Saturday afternoon and is now slated for emergency demolition. Parishioners were able to save robes, crosses and other church relics, "The chalices that we use for communion, some books, so that was really a blessing, that those didn't go.", said Father Anthony Salim.
Lisa Zlockie took a day off of work so she could help, "It was important for me to pull out what could be saved, the memories, to try and salvage all that so that when we rebuild we have some of that information from the past."
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Olean Fire Department.
