Buffalo, NY (WKBW) Last Friday the Sabres were basically dismantled by the Florida Panthers. They held Buffalo to two goals while scoring six, and sending them North without a point. Thursday night, the Sabres got a shot at revenge.
Early in the first, it looked like it was the same story all over again. Chris Higgins put the Panthers on the board early 1-0. Then Stephen Weiss scored to make it a two goal deficit. Higgins scored again in the first on the backhand to make it a three goal lead for the Panthers after one.
The second period was simply a different story. Jordan Leopold snuck a shot past Thomas Vokoun to put the Sabres back in the game. Then Jason Pominville found the back of the net with a shot of his own. Leopold then got a pass in the neutral zone, split two Panther defenders, and smoked one past Vokoun to tie the game after two periods.
The third period would decide the game. In a controversial non-call, Tyler Myers was tripped up, stripped of the puck, and the Panthers would make the most of it. Jason Garrison skated down the ice on a two-on-one, and ripped a shot that beat Ryan Miller on the short side. The Panthers would go on to win 4-3.
The Sabres will have the Christmas holiday off, and begin a west coast road trip on Monday.
