Leroy, NY (WKBW-Release)
At 03:26 a.m. a house fire with people trapped was reported at 3 Orchard Drive in the Village. Officer Robert Tygart of the LeRoy Police Department was dispatched along with the LeRoy Fire Department. Officer Tygart was first on the scene and found the rear of the house heavily involved with fire. Two male occupants were outside the rear of the residence when he arrived and a third occupant, a female was on a second story porch unable to exit. Officer Tygart then went up onto the porch and assisted the female down safely from the porch. The homeowner was not at home at the time of the fire.
Fire units arrived on the scene and the fire was declared under control at 03:57 a.m. One of the male occupants, Paul Atkinson 42 yoa was transported to Strong Memorial with severe burns and the status on his condition is not available. The second male occupant Richard Nelson was forced to exit a second story window sustaining a foot injury and was treated at the scene. Subsequently he complained of additional injuries and was transported to UMMC in Batavia. His status is also unknown.
Mutual aid fire companies assisting at the scene were from Caledonia-Mumford, Bergen, Pavilion and Stafford. Ambulance companies assisting at the scene were LeRoy Ambulance and Mercy EMS. Also assisting were members of the Genesee County Emergency Management Office.
The LeRoy Police Department is classifying the fire as suspicious and being assisted in the investigation by the Genesee County Emergency Management Office, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office.
