BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) With "The Oprah Winfrey Show" signing off for good, we decided to go back into the Channel 7 archives to August 1986.

That is when Oprah made her first and only visit to Western New York.

She appeared as a guest on "AM/Buffalo" when it was hosted by Cindy Abbott and Brian Kahle.

During Oprah's visit that day, she talked about her philosophy on what a talk show should be...how real people need to talk about real issues...and about her experience appearing in the hit movie, "The Color Purple."

Buffalo Bisons owner Bob Rich, Jr. presented Oprah with gifts from the City Of Buffalo, including a Bisons hat.

Oprah's show debuted on WKBW-TV in September of 1986 at 9am before moving to another station in 1991.

Oprah continued with projects on ABC-TV, including "The Big Give" that awarded Buffalo's Variety Club $10,000 for their charitable efforts with children.

Oprah will now concentrate on her OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) cable operation, based out of her HARPO studios in Chicago.
