Turn up the tunes and bring on the turkey, Operation: Rock Out Hunger begins at 4 o'clock this afternoon. 97 Rock's DJ Jickster will kick off this week-long operation. Jickster will brave the cold, making the Food Bank's trailer his new home for the next 7-days. He's collecting non-perishable food, frozen turkeys and cash donations at the Quaker Steak & Lube Buffalo located on Transit Road.
Last year, DJ Jickster and the Food Bank reached record-breaking numbers. Jickster collected 20,867 pounds of food, 2,508 turkeys and $19,002 in cash donations. Overall, the event has distributed 393, 204 meals and more than 9-thousand turkeys, but this year is extra special. National Fuel plans to announce that it will match every turkey donated, and owners of Gui's Lumber say they'll donate at least 200 turkeys to the cause.
Jickster believes it's a great way to make good things happen in the community.
“I was overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of so many people who came to the trailer with donations throughout the week," Jickster said, "What touched me the most were the children who came with their allowance to help feed a needy family.”
