NEW YORK STATE (WKBW Release) - The New York State Police, in commitment to promote safety on public highways will be increasing traffic enforcement efforts during the spring and summer months.

Traditionally, this season is marked by increased traffic volume as people embark on vacation travel. It is likewise a period wherein work zone construction projects and fatigue due to the upsurge in temperatures lend to the possibility for increased accidents, some which will result in serious injury or fatality.

All motorists should take the time to evaluate their driving habits to ensure that safe travel is occurring on roadways across the state.

Specialized Enforcement Details have already been enacted with the commencement of “Operation Hang-Up”.

On Tuesday, New York State Police conducted this specialized enforcement effort in Niagara, Orleans and Genesee Counties. This effort resulted in the identification of 63 traffic violations. The spring and summer months will find a continuance of these initiatives that will support our ongoing educational efforts aimed at raising public awareness surrounding the effects of distracted and aggressive driving. Driver inattention has been found to be a contributing factor in motor vehicle crashes, a factor that needs to be reduced in order to prevent needless fatal and injury crashes from occurring.

Motorists are reminded of the risks present when operating a motor vehicle and their responsibility to give it their undivided attention.
