Clarence (WKBW) It's a combination you may not think of now that Fall is upon us, but it's one that is drawing big crowds in Clarence; pumpkins and barbeque.

The Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence is adding a little twist to the opening weekend of their fall schedule. The tenth annual "Oinktoberfest" Barbeque Festival is taking over, to add to the fun activities the farm already has to offer.

Barb Dietrick, one of the organizers of Oinktoberfest, says is one of the biggest barbeque festivals in the region, showcasing the talents of over 80 competitors throughout the weekend.

For local cooks, barbeque is a labor of love. Chris McClendon is one of many local barbeque chefs participating in this weekend's activities.

"We got up this morning at about 7am to start our ribs. We rub them, they're marinated overnight, and then we cook them for about six hours in our smoker, and then they fall off the bone," he said.

And for those who came to sample they shared their thoughts between bites of pulled pork and ribs

"It's nice. A lot of things to eat, a lot of things to see, and good music," Dave Chriswell of Clarence said.

"It's a great gathering, with a lot of different vendors, and it's a great venue," Mary Pellitieri added.

"You've got the blues playing, some great barbeque, you can't beat it," Dan Trillo of Cheektowaga said.

"Oinktoberfest" runs all this weekend, and will surely bring smiling faces, full stomachs, and of course trophies to all the winners.

Here is the latest information from their website.

Welcome to the Great Pumpkin Farm
2011 - open daily 10am to dusk
September 24th though October 31st

Enjoy special events every weekend

This Fall Festival is our way of celebrating the harvest of blessings we enjoy in our community and our nation. It has grown to be, by far, the largest family event in the region. We believe that's because it's based on the root values we share in the cultures that make up this remarkable community.

We come together to share in the bounty of our land and enjoy the wonderful fall season our region is blessed with. The Great Pumpkin Farm Fall Festival is about wholesome fun and food. About decorating our homes for the season. As each pumpkin leaves here I know it will be the center of a family carving and decorating event. The laughter of the children and their parents warms our hearts and makes the gargantuan effort our family and our associates put into this event so worthwhile.

We welcome you and hope you enjoy our Festival as much as we enjoy creating it and having you here as our guests.

Enjoy Your Visit!
