Ohio Street reconstruction has a new timeline. Officials hope to put the project out to bid by late summer, with roadwork underway by the fall. The $12.85 million dollar project focuses on 1.4 miles of Ohio Street, between Michigan Avenue and Route 5. The goal is to create a pedestrian-friendly roadway to connect downtown and Canalside with the outer harbor. Federal dollars should cover 80% of the cost. A public hearing on the project is set for April 25 at ECC's downtown campus.

More people are hopping on Amtrak. Ridership along the train route stretching from Toronto through Niagara Falls and Buffalo to Albany rose by more than 13 percent in March, compared to a year ago. There were nearly 38,000 riders for the Empire Route last month. For the first half of the 2013 fiscal year, Amtrak says ridership increased 3.4 percent.
