Niagara County, N.Y. (WKBW) - Kevin Rohde, 30, of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office turned himself into Lockport Police on charges that he raped a young girl several years ago.

Rohde is a seven-year veteran of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and is now off the job because of these allegations. Authorities are claiming Rohde committed first-degree rape back in 1999 when he was just 18-years-old and before he was working in law enforcement. Authorities said Rohde knew the victim and she was a minor at the time, only about 14 or 15-years-old.

Defense Attorney Geroge Muscato plans to fight the charges, even if it means going to trial. He said the claims are untrue and suspicious.

"He is innocent of these allegations in fact it's even difficult to decide what the allegations are because the information is so poorly drawn that it leaves you to wonder what it is that they claim that he actually did. You have to really question the credibility here of the complainant 12 years later she 20 some years old she's now claiming that some event happened in her life back when she was 14 or 15 years old," Muscato said.

Rohde comes form a family of law enforcement. His father is in the business and his wife is a Lockport Police Officer. The couple just had a baby three weeks ago.

Rohde posted bail and is out of jail at this hour. He has been suspended with pay and will be back in court on Monday.
