BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) A house fire on Crestwood in North Buffalo, just a block from the Italian Heritage Festival, sent two occupants of the home to the hospital.
Firefighters were called to the home on Crestwood, between Linden and Hertel, just after 12:30p.m. Saturday afternoon.
However the first responders who raced to the scene were off duty Buffalo Police and Firefighters, attending the nearby Italian Festival.
A neighbor who lives across the street told Eyewitness News that those police and firemen got the victims out.
Officials told Eyewitness News those two victims were able to get out of the burning structure, and were then taken to the hospital. The identity of those victims and the extent of their injuries is not known at the time of this posting.
Buffalo Fire Chief Jack Hess was on the scene, and told Eyewitness News that smoking, and an oxygen tank thought to be used by one of the occupants on the second floor that might have been leaking, could have contributed to the fire. Investigators are continuing their work, and no official cause has been determined.
