NIAGARA COUNTY, NY ( WKBW ) Eyewitness News has confirmed that Dr. Grant Hobika DVM, a noted Lewiston animal doctor, has been brought on by the Board of Directors of the Niagara County SPCA.
Channel 7's John Borsa, who has been following this story for the last several weeks, talked with attorney Paul Cambria late Thursday night, who confirmed the hiring.
Later, the board issued a release that states:
The Niagara County SPCA Board of Directors has decided to engage the services of an independent veterinarian to evaluate all animals and oversee their care, as well as assist in the development of animal handling protocols, pending selection of an interim director.
The number of people who have submitted resumes has been so great, that it will take some time to evaluate all applicants.
As a result, the first priority is to begin revising the handling of animals and therefore the board has hired the services of Dr. Grant Hobika, DVM to the staff of the Lockport Road facility.
Dr. Hobika will be an on-site veterinarian, overseeing medical care of all animals at the facility. Dr. Hobika will have significant input to the medical protocols and updated medical facilities at the shelter.
Dr. Hobika has extensive experience in small animal and equine care.
He is a graduate of the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and Biomedical Sciences.
It is anticipated that the selection process for an interim director will conclude next week.
In the meantime, the focus will exclusively be on animal care.
