Niagara County, N.Y. - Four adults, four children and eight puppies were startled out of their sleep this morning as the sound of fire alarms took over the large century-old home.

"My son come down at 2 a.m. and hollered the house is on fire. We got up, we got the kids up and got out. Then, we called 911," Homeowner Dave Walker said.

When they came outside, Walker said they saw flames coming out the window. He said his son tried to control the fire with a garden hose but it continues to spread. The fire department arrived and quickly put out the blaze.

Luckily, no one was hurt but Walker said the house is destroyed along with all the family's belongings. He said they would quickly get back on their feet, thanks to the American Red Cross who donated materials.

"We got vouchers for clothes and for food. Also, three nights at the holiday Inn," Walker said.

Although there is more than $30,000 in damages, Walker said they would rebuild and someday move back home.

"We bought this house when it was bad. We fixed it up and put a lot of money into it so it's my wife's house," Walker said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
