Lockport, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour announced Monday that he has sent three Emergency Dispatchers to Broome County to assist the flood ravaged City of Binghamton and surrounding area.
Senior Dispatcher Darlene Gurnett and Dispatchers Roger Yurek and Michael Myers departed Sunday evening for Binghamton. They will be working 12 hour shifts Monday and Tuesday before returning home unless they are needed for a longer period of time.
Communications Captain Scott Lombardo stated that Broome County put out a statewide plea for dispatchers last Friday to assist their staff during the flood emergency. Captain Lombardo stated that Niagara County’s dispatchers will be especially helpful as both counties share similar communications and computer systems, noting that Dispatcher Yurek assisted Broome County in 2006 with another weather emergency.
Sheriff Voutour commended Gurnett, Yurek and Myers for volunteering for this assignment which takes them away from their families and homes for several days.
