Next Step in Redeveloping Downtown Buffalo

Mayor Byron Brown announcing a $15.7 million contract to begin redeveloping the 500th block of Main Street.

It's the stretch between Chippewa and Mohawk streets.

The Mayor says it is the next step to returning cars to Main Street in Buffalo.

Happening simultaneously, an $8 million dollar redevelopment project along the 600th block of Main Street.

It will be the first block on the street to allow vehicular traffic.

It's expected to be completed this fall.

The goal of the project is to link the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus with the residential and commercial activity downtown.

"It will transform Main Street into one of the most complete streets in the entire state of New York," said Mayor Byron Brown."You will see cars share the track bed with rail. There will be new streets, new curbs, there will be new signals, it will be a beautiful street ripe for investment."
