CLARENCE, NY - A Newfane grower is the World Pumpkin Weigh-off champion. Paul Schweigert's pumpkin totaled 1070 pounds when placed on the scale at the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence this afternoon. Schweigert credits the soil and the weather for his first place, $1,000 win.
John Sobieski of Grand Island came in second place with his pumpkin weighing 860.5 pounds.There were 13 entries in today's competition.
The World Pumpkin Weigh-off began in 1982 in Collins, NY before being moved to Clarence in 1996.The World Pumpkin Weigh-off is one of the popular highlights of the Fall Festival currently going on at the Great Pumpkin Farm. The festival runs through October 31st.
