BUFFALO, NY ( Business First ) Three Kaleida Health facilities are getting new names. First off, Business First reports that the new Global Vascular Institute on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus will be called the Gates Vascular Institute. It will keep the GVI acronym. Studies show that people associate Gates with stroke care. GVI is a $291 million facility adjacent to Buffalo General Hospital, which is also being rebranded as Buffalo General Medical Center, to reflect its evolution with a wider array of services and programs. Both names will be introduced in January. Then Kaleida says Women & Children's Hospital will return to its original name, Children's Hospital of Buffalo. It is moving to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in 2016.
Another Business First report shows how the Western New York Regional Council is working to ensure that $100 million in state funding is spent properly in WNY. 96 economic development projects will get a portion of the "surge money" to accelerate development across the region. The council will meet in early January to develop its role as project watchdog.
