(WKBW release) John and Victoria Frontera have been married for 72 years, and are the honorees for the state of New York in the “2012 Search for the Longest Married Couple” project sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, the original faith-based marriage enrichment program in this country.
This recognition is based on all the couples who were nominated in the state of New York.
“It was a privilege and a joy to visit with John & Victoria Frontera,” said Joyce and Mark
Kulyk, leaders of Worldwide Marriage Encounter in the Mid-Atlantic Region, who came to
West Seneca to honor the Frontera’s.
“All of their children and other family members were there to celebrate with them.” added Mark Kulyk.
John & Victoria were both born in Cortale, Italy, but met here in Western New York when one family welcomed the other’s family upon arriving in the U.S. They have 5 children, the youngest passed away in 2003, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Most live in the Buffalo area.
“When we arrived, there was no question of the family’s energy in the room; and it was apparent the source was Mr. & Mrs. Frontera and their love for each of them,” commented Joyce Kulyk.
Their daughter Paula added, “Plus, the true love they have for each other.”
John, age 96, worked for Niagara Power and is well-known for his huge garden and passion
for wine-making. He continues to garden, recently growing 35 different kinds of tomatoes.
Victoria, age 90, is lively lady who led the family with nutritious home-cooked meals,
personal loving care of each child, and exercise -- long before its commercial popularity. She
would often say, “Don’t just sit there, get up and do something! Go walk in the fresh air!”
The longest married couple in the United States, based on all the nominations submitted, is
Wilbur and Theresa Faiss of Las Vegas, NV. They are married 78 years. The Faiss’ were
honored at a special ceremony in Las Vegas by Scott & Karen Seaborn, the United States
leaders for Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
