(WKBW) An Oneida County deputy died early Tuesday morning after being shot at the end of a six-hour standoff in Knoxboro, and his wife went into labor with the couple's second child after hearing the news, according to sheriff's department spokesman.

Oneida County deputy Kurt Wyman, 24, died at a Utica hospital after being shot while attempting to take the suspect into custody, according to reports.

Wyman, who spent a year stationed in Iraq as a member of a Marine Corps Reserves unit, had been with the sheriff's for almost four years.
