Park District school board member Carl Paladino made quite a splash at his first school board meeting Wednesday.

"We have 27,000 children who at the present time are not being given the choice that they are entitled to under the federal law," said Paladino to the board.

But perhaps not much as big a splash as Kat Massey one of the 30 public speakers.

Massey held a bat with the word "combat" taped on it. It was a page taken from Paladino's book himself when he wielded a bat during his gubernatorial campaign speeches in 2010.

Massey blasted Paladino for calling for superintendent Pamela Brown's resignation claiming Brown is qualified to lead the district.

A teenage student also addressed the board with a bold statement for the superintendent.

"Dr. Brown the parents and the teachers want you out of that seat before you can wreak your destruction on the Buffalo Public School system," said Ryan McCarthy, a student within the district.

One thing that was absolutely clear in this meeting is that the community is watching and the decisions the newly seated board makes will be under scrutiny.

Paladino has nearly 35 motions he has submitted to the board. Bard president Dr. Barbara Nevergold has reoffered the majority of those issues to various committees.
