Law 5-1 was passed Thursday largely along party lines with the majority of democratic legislators supporting the bill eight to seven.

Here is some of the reaction from legislators,
"These lines are drawn down the middle of our streets so that we are included in a district together. That is almost laughable in how much gerrymandering there is in that plan. My heavens! The people across the street from me will not be in my district," said Republican legislator, Edward Rath.
"For those who complain about what geographic districts look like, I have yet to recall a complaint of any of those mentioned when Louise Slaughter and John LaFalce were in the same district 100 miles between point 'A' and point 'B'," said Democratic Legislator, Lyn Marinelli.
The new law now goes to Republican Erie County Executive Chris Collins. He will review the bill and hold a public hearing.
Collins does have the authority to veto the bill.
