According to a report released Thursday by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 46 percent of American adults now own some type of smartphone as of February 2012.
That ranks as an 11 percent increase from May 2011, according to the Pew report. And nearly every demographic group has shown an increase in smartphone users over the past year, according to the report.
Smartphone owners now outnumber users of more basic phones, according to the Pew report.
