The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) today announced that the new roundabout at the intersection of NY Route 5/ US Route 20 and NY Route 438 on the Cattaraugus Territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians is now open to traffic.

Travel restrictions remain in effect in the vicinity of the roundabout as follows:

NY Route 5

NY Route 5 from Milestrip Road to NY Route 438 will be closed to all traffic in both directions. Motorists traveling on NY Route 5 will be directed to follow a posted detour using Milestrip Road and US Route 20. A temporary traffic signal will control traffic at the intersection of Milestrip Road and US Route 20 while the detours remain in effect.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted speed limits along the detour routes.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
