Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW)- The NFTA is looking to sell waterfront land, which includes the Small Boat Harbor and Gallagher Beach, to popular areas for the public. Now, the City of Buffalo wants to acquire the land.

City officials worry that if a private investor buys the land, they may close it off to the public. The Common Council passed a resolution this wee that calls for the NFTA to return the land to the city or allow them to buy it. On December 19th the Common Council plans to hold a close door session meeting to discuss the purchase.

Some board members feel the meeting to discuss the land should be open to the public. They are currently discuss the issue and will decide before the Monday meeting.

The Council is also researching if the City can apply Eminent Domain to the land to take it from the NFTA. They said this would assure that places like the Small Boat Harbor and Gallagher Beach remain open to public.
