According to a story posted on NFL.com, the National Football League on Wednesday suspended New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton for one year without pay for his role in the team's bounty program.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for eight games, and former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams -- who is now with the St. Louis Rams -- was suspended indefinitely, according to the NFL.com story.

The bounty program, which paid players for hits that knocked opponents out of games, is in violation of league rules.
