NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) A strange dark sludge-like material is ruining the home of a Niagara Falls woman who lives on Porter Road near Robbins Drive.
The home owner, who asked to be identified only by her first name Carmen, told Eyewitness News that the substance is causing her family to suffer respiratory problems and break out in strange rashes.
"Sometimes it has a black coating on it," said Carmen.
While the substance has seeped up from drains several times over the past few years, the family says it filled their basement this past July when Niagara Falls was hit by extreme rainfall.
The heavy rain caused widespread basement flooding and knocked out pumps at the waste water treatment facility on Buffalo Avenue.
"I'm going to call Lois Gibbs. I'm sure she would be interested in testing this," added Carmen.
Officials from the Niagara Falls Water Board were not available for comment.
This complaint comes as several residents are now working with attorneys to prepare lawsuits claiming that leaking chemicals from the Love Canal got into their homes through the sewer system.
Eyewitness News has also learned that other residents on Porter Road reported the strange material coming up through their drains.
