Niagara Falls, NY (WKBW) - Gunfire in a Niagara Falls neighborhood leads to a deadly shooting in the Cataract City on Monday night, leaving two people dead.

Neighbors heard the gunfire at about eight in the evening in a home at 548 29th Street in Niagara Falls.

Inside the house, police found a man and a woman who they say are girlfriend and boyfriend. Both were shot and killed.

Neighbors say one of the deceased is an veteran who served in Iraq.

Those who live nearby add that this is typically a quiet neighborhood.

Niagara Falls Police Superintendent says "a couple of people in the neighborhood heard gunshots. Obviously, that came from the residence."

A person who lived near the house that didn't want to be identified said that her family moved from downtown because it's a nice area.

She says "really (this is) just surreal. We're all in shock."

Police are not releasing the identities of the two people found shot until both families are notified.

Police say they will release more information as the investigation continues.
