According to The Hollywood Reporter, movie attendance in the U.S. was at a 16-year low in 2011.

It is estimated that 1.28 billion people turned out to theaters in 2011, which would be the lowest total since 1995, according to The Hollywood Reporter report. The number also marked a 4.4-percent decrease from 2010, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
