Amherst, N.Y. (WKBW) Thanksgiving tradition used to include a turkey and family, but this year tradition has evolved.

People lined up earlier than ever to get great deals, in what has come to be known nationally as 'Brown Thursday.'

At the Toys R Us store in Amherst people were waiting in line since noon to race through the doors which opened at 5 p.m. this year.

Some people we talked to say while they love turkey, shopping seems to be their new tradition which offers just as much family bonding time.

Many people in the lines here in WNY came from Canada. Since Thanksgiving is celebrated in October in their country, there's no worries about missing out on quality family time.

But as for the Americans in line, some say you can still have your turkey and eat it too-- just maybe for lunch instead of dinner.
