BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - A car crash in Niagara County killed two teens. Now, the victims' families are speaking out about their loss.
Channel 7 spoke with the Cindy Barnes the mother of Jeremy Campbell.
"The last words that we said to each other were I love you mom and I told him that I loved him," Barnes said.
That is the final memory that Cindy Barnes ever made with her 19 year-old son. Now, she cherishes the thousands of pictures that will help keep his face fresh in her mind.
Barnes said she remembered his smile and winning personality. She also said Jeremy was a bit of a comedian and always had a smile on his face.
She said he grew up to be a great person. Jeremy graduated from Niagara Falls High School last year. Just last week, he got accepted to Niagara County Community College.
"He was climbing the ladder, working hard. He was trying to achieve all his goals and his life was cut short," Campbell's father-figure Douglas Smith said.
But through all of her pain, Barnes said she feels for all the families of the five teens involved especially the parents of 17 year-old Taylor Messing. Taylor was next to Jeremy in the back seat of the car and was also killed in the crash.
Now, Barnes expresses strong advice to other parents. She said never take one moment with your kids for granted.
"I hugged him all the time. I kissed him all the time. I told him I loved him and he told him he loved me," Barnes said.
A wake for Campbell will be held on Wednesday at Lane Funeral Home in Niagara Falls from 2p.m. to 4p.m. then 6p.m. to 8p.m. There will be a private ceremony to follow for family and friends.
