A serious form of detention for a California mother whose children missed too much school.

According to a report from Granite Broadcasting sister station KSEE 24 News, a 34-year-old California mother will spend 180 days in jail for allowing her children to miss 116 school days last year, violating state truancy laws.

According to the KSEE 24 News report:

There are typically 180 days in a school year, and that's exactly how much time a Hanford mom will spend in jail for not sending her kids to school. 34-year-old Lorraine Cuevas plead guilty to violating the state truancy law. She allowed her two young children to miss a total of 116 days during last year's school year. The truancy law states that kids must not miss more than 10% of the school year.
