BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Many travelers spent much of Wednesday trying to get out of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport since many flights were either canceled or delayed. "I was suppose to leave at 8:40 in the morning and they cancel the flight," Jose Cruz, a traveler trying to get to Texas, said.
"Oh it's frustrating, the whole morning has been just trying to reorganize our flights and everything else," Ed Cardoso, another traveler, said.
"We were booked with Southwest to leave...at 8:30am, that was cancelled, rebooked for 3:30pm which was canceled," Gloria Cardoso said.
A massive storm system stretching from the Southern Plains out to the Northeast has impacted many cities and major airports.
Some travelers decided to take their travel plans into their own hands. "Flight was canceled from Vegas to Buffalo... so I took a flight to Toronto and took a cab here to Buffalo," Mike Petrus said.
A few lucky travelers though had no problem getting out of the Buffalo Airport and were still able to take a vacation in Florida. "We had this trip planned for awhile and...we're looking at the weather and thinking should we cancel," Bob Zima said. "We checked our flights and everything was on time so...we're getting out of here!"
But for many others it's a long waiting game. "Once we get on the flight and know we're off the ground, we'll take a breath and know we're hopefully on our way," Gloria Cardoso said.
About half the flights are expected to be on time late Wednesday night however a couple big airlines, including United and American Airlines, aren't scheduled to have any planes going out until Thursday morning. For the latest flight information go to http://www.buffaloairport.com/.
