Buffalo, NY

Wednesday was a really exciting day at the site of the new children's hospital. Seven mock rooms are now on display. What's important about these new rooms is that the architect relied heavily on input from focus groups including parents, patients, doctors, nurses and social workers.

The rooms are designed to be much larger that the old rooms at Women and Children's Hospital. The mock ups showed the neo-natal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, pre and post op-rooms, labor and delivery, urgent care rooms, mother and baby rooms and operating rooms in the new hospital.

The biggest upgrade? Single rooms instead of group rooms so families spend more time with their loved ones.

"Our ability to add technology to this old infrastructure is very difficult so larger spaces up to appropriate code spaces but mostly it's the fact that they're all built up and designed for all the technology that's here today and could potentially come in the future," Allegra Jaros, COO Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

Since March 8th Ellicott Street has been closed between High and Goodrich Streets.

Crews are building a new underground walkway that will connect the new Children's Hospital to Buffalo General Medical center.

The $200 million dollar project is expected to be completed in mid-2015.

You can see live webcam images of the construction site. Cameras are connected to the bridges and second and third floors of the new hospital.
