Albion, NY (WKBW) -- The family of 15-year-old Katherine Sanchez, who was found Friday in a shallow grave in an apple orchard, is speaking out. A small memorial now remains inside Sanchez's Albion home. The teen had been missing since mid-January and Police say Sanchez was sexually assaulted and strangled by her brother-in-law, 21 year old Carlos Cardenas, while she was babysitting for the couple. Police say after keeping her body in the basement for a few days, police say he then moved it to an orchard in the Town of Ridgeway. Cardenas' wife Kimberly, who is Sanchez's older sister, says Cardenas acted normal the entire time her sister was missing.

"He deserves the death sentence, that's what he deserves," said Sanchez's Sister Kimberly Cardenas. "He's demented. He's a sick man. He never acted any different."

Sanchez's family says the 15-year-old was a good student at Albion High School and was an athlete on the track team. Her family says they remain heartbroken.

"She was an angel. An angel on earth," added Kimberly Cardenas. "She will always be with us. She will always be remembered."

Counseling sessions are available for the entire community until 7pm Monday and Tuesday at the school. Calling hours for Sanchez will be held on Tuesday from 5 until 6 pm at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home in Albion. A funeral service will immediately follow. Carlos Cardenas was denied bail and will appear back in Albion Town Court Thursday.
