Men Arrested After Stealing Property From Jim Kelly

EAST AURORA, NY ( release) East Aurora Police arrested 36 year old Kevin Sapp, formally of Seneca St., in South Buffalo and 34 year old Eric Schmidt of 2643 Seneca St., West Seneca N.Y.

Both men were charged with Grand larceny 3rd ,and possession of stolen property property3rd,.Sapp was additionally charged with trespass .

The felony charges stem from a August 2009 incident where former Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame Quarterback “Jim Kelly” had several thousand dollars worth of property stolen .

The property included Quarterback Kelly’s famous 2002 Hall of Fame ring, along with his University of Miami “Ring of Honor” . Both rings were recovered along with additional property. Sapp is presently incarcerated at the Oneida Prison for unrelated burglary charges.

"Without the cooperation and information from Orchard Park Police and Erie County Sheriff’s Department ,this arrest would not of been possible” stated Detective Rick Daminski of the East Aurora Police Department.

“You must work together”. Mr. Sapp will be transported from Oneida Prison in Rome N.Y, back to East Aurora for arraignment. Eric Schmidt was arraigned before Town Justice Markello and is due back in Aurora Court on February 16.

Late Friday Eyewitness News received a statement from Jim Kelly:

“About a year and a half ago at my residence in East Aurora my vehicle was broken into and my briefcase was stolen containing various personal items. The thief was caught and I am extremely grateful that the Detective from the East Aurora Police Department was able to retrieve most of my belongings”.
